Ants on the wall

Common Pests and How to Exterminate Them

There is a wide variety of pests out there in the world. Some are harmless insects, while some are of the more dangerous type. Whatever they are, they’re certainly not welcome in anyone’s house. Not only can they bite or sting, but they also dirty up the place and can be a source of disease and infection.

If you’re experiencing a pest infestation, don’t be afraid to call an exterminator. Some Salt Lake City pests can be dangerous if they’re allowed to roam free in your home.

Common Pests to Deal With

Some of the more common insects that one can deal with are ants. These little creatures make colonies inside your home or garden. When there are two ants visible, there are more nearby. While ants are relatively harmless in small numbers, ant bites can be very painful, especially for children.

Another common pest is the cockroach. Cockroaches feast on your garbage and reproduce like crazy. Preferring to live in dark areas, they’re disgusting. They can contaminate your food if you’re not careful and sneak into your home with little trouble. Some variants of cockroaches can even fly, making it more challenging to keep their numbers down.

More generic types of pests include ticks and spiders. Ticks latch onto your skin and cause an itchy sensation when they drain your blood. Some carry diseases that are harmful to the human body. On the other hand, spiders are mostly harmless predators that prey on smaller insects. However, some spiders are aggressive and like to bite. Some species like the black widow have extremely deadly poison, making them dangerous to have around.

These are just some of the insects that you can encounter. All sorts of bugs can wander into your home if you’re not careful. Even when you are, it’s not impossible that they slipped into your home through a crack somewhere.

Keeping Your Home Insect Free

It’s not an easy task to keep your home insect-free, but there are many ways to reduce their points of entry. The easiest way to do that is to make sure that your doors and windows are closed. This will prevent some of the bigger insects from sneaking in, but smaller ones, like cockroaches or ants, can crawl under the cracks. Having weatherstrips and proper screens will help prevent problems.

Insects can also slip in through holes in doors or ceilings. Be sure to patch these up as soon as you can. If you’re having trouble keeping the insect population down, target places where they breed. Many insects types thrive in your gardens, living among the plants or in the soil. Some types even prefer to live in your garbage. Make sure to keep both clean.

Keep your home clutter-free as well. Insects thrive in a dirty environment, so a dirty home will only help their numbers grow. If you have severe infestations, don’t hesitate to call an exterminator. Insect numbers do not lower with time. Call a professional and let them solve your problems. Insects can be very annoying to deal with, but prevention can stop bad cases of infestation.
